Bomb Squads and More! - 11.20.09
Approximately two years ago, a suspicious (ticking) package was found in the mailroom of one of UWRF's residence halls. The determination was made that the package needed to be handled by a bomb squad. As no mutual aid agreement was in place between Wisconsin and Minnesota for local emergencies, the nearby St. Paul bomb squad was unable to respond. We instead had to wait four hours from a bomb squad from Marathon County, Wisconsin to respond.
Since that time, we have advocated for the creation of a mutual aid agreement that would allow for the sharing of resources between states in emergencies that did not rise to the level of s Governor declared state of emergency. I was pleased to learn earlier this week that just such an agreement has now been signed by Governor Pawlenty and Goveror Doyle. A word of thanks to them and to everyone that made this agreement a reality.
