Advising Preparation
Responsibilities of Students During the Advising Process
- Schedule an appointment with your advisor in advance of your registration date and be prepared for this meeting by bringing a course schedule and a draft of next semester's class schedule.
- Seek your advisor's assistance with academic decisions rather than expecting advisors to make those decisions for you. Accept responsibility for the decisions you make.
- Schedule an additional appointment with your advisor when in academic difficulty, before declaring a major or before withdrawing from the University.
Tips For Meeting with Your Academic Advisor
- Print off your Degree Audit Report (DAR)
Your DAR can be found in eSIS under "Academic History" (to the left of "This Week's Schedule").
- Create a "Wish List"
eSIS allows you to create a wish list of courses that you hope to take when you can register for classes. Creating a Wish List makes registration easier and prepares you for your meeting with your Academic Advisor. Use a Class Scheduling Grid to help you organize what you would like your class schedule to look like.
- Arrive approximately five minutes in advance to help keep your advisor on schedule
They meet with a lot of students so you do not want to be late!
- Introduce yourself
Introducing yourself is common courtesy, shows respect, and best of all - it breaks the ice!
Removing "Holds" on eSIS
After logging in to eSIS, you will see “Holds” listed on the top right-hand-corner of your Student Center. These holds MUST be taken care of before registering for any courses. A few of the most common holds are listed below:
- Registration Deposit
Continuing students must "roll" their $100 Registration Deposit to the next term in order to enroll for classes.
Simply click the Registration Deposit link that appears in the Finances section of your Student Center on eSIS and "roll" your deposit.

- Fee Payment Agreement
All students are required to sign the UWRF Fee Payment Agreement prior to registering for each fall and spring term. Students are responsible for knowing UWRF fee payment policies and procedures. Please read the screens and Fee Payment Agreement Form carefully. To sign the Fee Payment Agreement, click on the Fee Pymt Agreement link in the Finances section of your eSIS Student Center.

- Registration PIN (Personal Identification Number)
A Registration PIN is obtained by meeting with your Academic Advisor prior to registration. In order to remove your “Registration PIN” Hold, login to eSIS. There are two ways of entering the Registration PIN.

Registration Help Sessions are available in the lower level of the library as registration time nears. Check out the WOW2 schedule for more details. For other helpful eSIS tutorials, click here.
