Mission and Strategic DirectionsThe Chalmer Davee Library provides resources and services to support the curriculum and mission of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Embracing the University’s values, the staff of the Library develop initiatives to accomplish the library’s specific mission:
To fulfill this mission, the library pursues goals and initiatives developed around six major themes: Theme 1: Culture of Learning The library will play a key role in advancing the University's Strategic Goal 1, “Create a Culture of Learning.” By expanding support for library resources and services, the library will create a culture that supports both student learning and faculty learning through research, scholarship and creative activity. The library will further facilitate student learning by collaborating with faculty to foster information literacy skills in students. Theme 2: Information Resources The library will play a leadership role in providing information resources to the campus and community. It will develop a quality collection that supports the curriculum and that also meets the informational, recreational, and archival needs of students, faculty, staff, and the community at large. The library will cooperate with all libraries in the UW System to reduce duplication and expand access to information resources for all students and faculty throughout the System. The library will also promote new models of scholarly communication, including the development and management of a digital institutional repository for UW-River Falls. Theme 3: Library as Place The library will provide a facility that is inviting, comfortable and conducive to study and research and that meets the needs of an expanding student population. Theme 4: Technological Infrastructure The library will employ current technology to improve access to library information resources, to provide timely and efficient access to library services, to support staff productivity, and to enhance the research experience for all library users. Theme 5: Human Resources The library will develop a qualified, knowledgeable, and service-oriented staff. Staff will be supported to develop technical and professional skills and will be encouraged to play a leadership role in promoting library services at the campus, community, state, and national level. Theme 6: Collaboration The Library will collaborate with all libraries throughout the University of Wisconsin System to strengthen library resources and services. The library will work to advance the University of Wisconsin Libraries Strategic Directions. Based on the philosophy of One System One Library, the strategic directions lay out an aggressive plan of action to provide library services and information resources to make teaching, learning and research more productive and rewarding.
