| Klingelhutz, Brossman, O'Brien Named WIAC Athletes of the Week Nov. 3, 2009
Football player Greg Klingelhutz (So., Chanhassen, Minn.), men's hockey player Justin Brossman (So., Littleton, Col.) and men's swimmer Kevin O'Brien (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) have all been named WIAC athletes of the week according to league sports information director, Matt Stanek.
Klingelhutz was named the league's special team's Player of the Week after he gave the Falcon football team a much needed spark in the team’s 31-28 overtime win over UW-Platteville on Saturday at Ramer Field. After UWP tied the game, 7-7, late in the first quarter, Klingelhutz returned the ensuing kick off 91 yards for a touchdown. He finished the game with three kick off returns for 136 yards. Klingelhutz, 5-9, 180 pounds, also returned one punt for eight yards. “Greg plays on the punt, punt return, kick off and kick off return units and does a great job in each one,” said Falcon Coach John O’Grady. The kick off return for the touchdown was the second of his UWRF career. This year he leads the team with 17 kick off returns and averages 25.1 yards per return. He also leads with eight punt returns and he averages 8.2 yards a return. Klingelhutz has also carried the ball 18 times for 83 yards and one touchdown and caught three passes for 16 yards.
Brossman helped the Falcon hockey team to a weekend sweep at UW-Superior. He was also named the NCHA Player of the Week. UWS was the defending NCHA and WIAC regular season champions and also earned a spot in the NCAA National tournament. Brossman, 5-10, 190 pounds, picked up the lone assist on the game-winning goal that came midway through the third period on Friday. On Saturday he scored the team’s fifth goal and it proved to be the game winner. It came at 12:33 of the second period. He also picked up three assists in the game, on the team’s third, fourth and sixth goals. The fourth and sixth goals were power-play tallies. Brossman has already hit the double-digit mark in points with 10. He has two goals and eight assists and leads the team in points. He has one game-winning goal.
O'Brien set a school record in the swim team’s 151-110 win at Macalester on Friday night. O’Brien set the record in the 100 fly and finished first with a time of 54.2. He also won the 200 IM in 2:11.44 and the 50 fly in 24.77. O’Brien, 5-10, was also part of the 200 medley relay team that placed first in 1:45.75. |
