Falcons Lose WIAC Semifinal Playoff Match at UWEC
Nov. 5, 2009 The Blugolds struck quickly to open the match. Katie Richter scored on the first shot of the game at 2:10 to stake EC the early advantage. Shyla Gilbertson assisted on the play. Before the Falcons could record a shot in the game, the Blugolds added to their lead. Alli Kishaba scored an unassisted goal at 13:02 to extend the EC lead. The ball would not bounce in the Falcons favor as the third Blugold goal came at 29:10 on an own goal. The ball was kicked by EC's Richelle Shannon and headed into the Falcon goal by a Falcon defender. After attempting only two shots in the first half, the Falcons came out firing in the second half. RF rattled off three shots on goal and two corner kicks in the opening 10 minutes of the half. The Blugolds added a fourth goal at 57:26 to round out the scoring in the game when Gilbertson scored, assisted by Kishaba. Rachel Thompson played the first 22 minutes in goal for the Falcons and made two saves. Megan Rasmussen played the final 68 minutes and made four saves. Janae Baron led the Falcon offense with three shots, two on goal. EC led the game in shots 20-6 and corner kicks 8-4. RF was called for eight fouls and EC committed seven. The Falcons finish the season with a 9-10-2 record overall and a 5-3 record and a third place finish in the WIAC. |
