Swimmers Give Great Effort at Eau Claire The Falcons struggled to win the majority of the events in today’s meet against one of the WIAC’s strongest forces. The Falcons were able to take a few races with solid performances by a few key swimmers. The women did very well in the 100 backstroke taking the first three positions in the race. Roxie Pingry won the race with a time of 1:09.26. She was followed up by teammates Martha O’Brien and Tamra Knight. In the men’s 100 yard backstroke Micheal Brudzinski, the lone River Falls swimmer in the race, won the event with a time of 1:06.50. The Falcons had some success in relay races winning a couple of key events late. The Falcons won the 200 yard freestyle relay on strong performances by the team consisting of Katie Zaooa, Jill Lambach, Emily Stein, and Martha O’Brien. The relay team won the race with a time of 1:42.40. The men also won the same event on the men’s side with a time of 1:31.13. The team consisted of Tom Fritchen, David Johnson, Mark Thorsen, and anchored by Tyler Ormson. The Falcons next meet is the Falcon invitational, which will be held at the University of Minnesota at their aquatics center. The meet is scheduled for December 4, and December 5. Races will begin at 9 a.m. on both days. This is the largest swimming meet in the nation with over 500 athletes involved. |
